Description

After a close friend died of cancer, middle-aged, overweight, acrophobic newspaperman Tom Ryan decided to pay tribute to her in a most unorthodox manner. Ryan and his friend, miniature schnauzer Atticus M. Finch, would attempt to climb all forty-eight of New Hampshire’s four-thousand-foot peaks twice in one winter while raising money for charity. It was an adventure of a lifetime, leading them across hundreds of miles and deep into an enchanting but dangerous winter wonderland. At the heart of the amazing journey was the extraordinary relationship they shared, one that blurred the line between man and dog.

Following Atticus is an unforgettable true saga of adventure, friendship, and the unlikeliest of family, as one remarkable animal opens the eyes and heart of a tough-as-nails newspaperman to the world’s beauty and its possibilities.

LOVED this book! I live in NH and enjoyed reading about the beautiful places I've been and haven't been in our awesome state. Also, I loved how Tom and Atticus validated the bond I feel with my dog. He has mastered the mind-meld to let me know what he feels and wants. I plan to never hike in winter, but the descriptions were so good that I had to get a quilt to be able to read them without shivering. I have recommended it to anyone who will listen to me. Thank you, Tom and Atticus, and thank you, Max, for opening the door to such a rich relationship.

Wonderful story about a man who discovers himself and what matters most in life through learning to care for and love a canine friend. Nothing is more true or honest then the innocence and devotion of a dog. The story of Tom & Atticus is a great read that will leave you smiling.

Like any other dogs, atticus is a true genius. This book is a heart warming page turner. Some parts doesn't feel realistic, but it's not important. The fact that you have something that gives you unconditional love. Hope Atti remains happy in the gorgeous mountain.

I loved this book and I hope there will be sequels, numerous sequels. The way Tom wrote this book you actually felt like you were climbing the mountains with he and Atticus. He put so much feeling and emotion in each chapter. My only regret is it came to an end. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us, Tom. Seriously consider writing another book about you and Atticus ..... Please?
